HUMPBACK WHALE WATCHING SEASON
Humpbacks begin their southern migration from Alaska to Hawai'i in December every year to give birth to their calves as well as to mate. Whales stay through about April, but dates can vary somewhat.

PRINCE KUHIO CELEBRATION OF THE ARTS
A full day of festivities celebrating the birthday of one of Hawaii's most beloved monarchs, Prince Kuhio. Begin with commemorative ceremonies at Prince Kuhio's birthplace followed by a full series of demonstrations, "talk-story" (lectures) and entertainment reflecting Hawaii's unique cultural customs during the time of Prince Kuhio. One man/two man outrigger canoe/surfski coastal relay race with changes at Hanamaulu Bay, Kalapaki Bay, Poipu Beach. Participants from Australia, Tahiti, Hong Kong, Germany, Italy, Canary Islands, New Zealand, South Africa, US Mainland and Hawaii. Open and Division winners share $20000 purse. VISITOR INDUSTRY CHARITY WALK
The Hawaii Hotel Association (HHA) annual Visitor Industry Charity Walk is Hawaii's largest single-day fundraiser, taking place simultaneously on Oahu, Maui, Big Island and Kauai. Each year, proceeds benefit local charities. Millions of dollars have been raised for local charities since the walk began in 1978. Walk begins at the Kukui Grove Pavilion in the morning. KAUAI POLYNESIAN FESTIVAL
The annual Kaua`i Polynesian Festival is presented Memorial Day weekend. The Kaua`i Polynesian Festival kicks off with a Grand Polynesian Luau. HISTORIC WAIMEA WALKING TOUR
Tour historic Waimea, the place Captain Cook first landed in Hawaii. Waimea was once a major population center and home to ruling chiefs. Missionaries established schools and rice and sugar growers changed the landscape. Wear light clothing and comfortable shoes. MONTHLY STARWATCH
Kauai is an ideal location for astronomical observation. The Kauai Educational Association for Science & Astronomy conducts a monthly starwatch in Kaumakani at the softball field. Follow highway 50 west past Hanapepe. After mile marker 18, look for KEASA signs on the right. Follow the KEASA signs for parking and starwatch. WEST KAUAI TECHNOLOGY & VISITOR CENTER
The West Kauai Technology & Visitor Center opened in 1999 in beautiful Waimea Town, located on the west side of the Garden Island. The West Kauai Technology & Visitor Center features exhibits, programs, and classes reflecting the multi-ethnic diversity of its historical and present agricultural community. Exhibits and displays based on themes relevant to visitors and residents alike are changed periodically to reflect the time of year, local celebrations, ancient Hawaiian traditional lifestyles, and the ethnic diversity of the West Kauai community. The center also presents a video about the island. Computers with free Internet access are available. Monday morning walking tours of Historic Waimea.
