Hotels on the Big Island of Hawaii

There are many excellent hotels on the Big Island of Hawaii. The majority of the hotels on the Big Island are located on the west coast. There are two areas on the west coast of the Big Island where the hotels and resorts are mostly located, the Kohala Coast and near Kailua Kona town. One hotel that has closed on the Big Island of Hawaii and plans to reopen in 2013 is Kona Village.

If you are planning a vacation to the Big Island of Hawaii and are in need of a hotel be sure and check to see if a sandy beach is nearby. Many hotels on the Big Island of Hawaii are located oceanfront but don't have beaches. The reason for this is because the Big Island of Hawaii is the newest of the Hawaiian Islands. Newer islands have had less time to develop sandy beaches. About the only hotel in Kailua Kona with a sandy beach is the King Kamehameha Kona Beach Resort. There are several sandy beaches south of Kailua Kona that also have great snorkeling.

More of the inexpensive hotels on the Big Island of Hawaii are located in Kailua Kona.They range from 1 to 4 star in quality rating. The hotels located on the Big Island of Hawaii that rate in the 4 to 6 star range are mostly located in the Kohala Coast area.

There are several hotels on the Big Island of Hawaii that are located on the eastern side of the Big island. Most of these are in or near Hilo Hawaii. The hotels in Hilo are mostly for the budget minded traveler or those wanting to be in close proximity to the Big Island Volcano.

Hotels on the Big Island of Hawaii that are located on the west side of the Island benefit from lots of sunshine year round and very little rain. The Kailua Kona and Kohala Coast hotels on the Big Island have about 10 inches of rain a year. In contrast the town of Hilo on the east side of the island average about 129 inches of rain a year. Hilo is actually the wettest city in the entire United States. A couple of years ago they had 28 inches of rain in a 24 hour period. Remember we are talking about a rain forest.

You will find most hotels on the Big Island of Hawaii are a bargain to stay at are extremely people friendly.

Sheraton Hotels Big Island

Currently there is only one Sheraton Hotels on the Big Island Hawaii. As of this writing we are unaware of any plans for more Sheraton hotels on the Big island Hawaii. We have personally stayed at the Sheraton on the Big Island Hawaii several times and would highly recommend giving it a try. Keauhou Bay runs along side of the Sheraton, that's where it gets it's name.

If you can afford it I would recommend staying at the Sheraton hotels on the Big Island and asking for an oceanfront room overlooking Keauhou Bay. The Sheraton Resort and Hotel on the Big Island boasts the longest waterslide on any of the Hawaiian Islands, measuring over 200 feet long. It has an extensive array of pools to swim in allowing you to meander from one pool to another.It also has a "pool beach" area with sand and a water feature. At the Sheraton Hotels on the Big Island there is always plenty of lounge chairs available to relax and take in the sites.Sheraton has hotels on the four main islands of Hawaii but one of our favorites is the Sheraton Hotels on the Big Island of Hawaii.

There are 521 guest rooms at the Sheraton Hotels Big Island Hawaii. All rooms have a "sweet sleeper mattress" to insure your confort while staying at the Sheraton. We have never been disappointed with service while staying here.

An added benefit of staying at the Sheraton Big Island is that they have a Manta Ray population just a few feet off the shoreline that are visible from the ocean's edge at nightfall for several hours. The Sheraton is conveniently located minutes south of Kailua Kona Town. 

For an evening out on the town it's only  a 5 minute drive to Kona. If you visit the Big Island of Hawaii you have to go see the Hawaii volcano. The Sheraton is about a 2 hour drive from Volcano's National Park. A suggestion would be to schedule a boat ride off the east side of the Big Island in Hilo town.

Hilton Hotels on the Big Island of Hawaii

Hilton has one grand hotel on the Big Island of Hawaii. It gets it's name from it's location, The Hilton Waikoloa Village is located in what's called Waikoloa. Hilton Hotels on the Big Island of Hawaii has a private beach with great snorkeling, the only dolphin experience on the Big Island of Hawaii too. To access your room you will be taken on a small cabin cruiser type of boat.
The Hilton has a total of 1,240 guest rooms and is set on 62 beachfront acres and is 20 minutes from the airport. Hilton Hotels on the Big Island of Hawaii also offers boat rides in a canal around the resort. The Hilton Hotels on the Big Island of Hawaii gets about ten inches of rain a year.

Days are mostly sunny and the temperature is around 70 degrees at night and 82-85 during the day. The Hilton Hotel on the Big Island is about 20 minutes from the airport and two and a half hours drive from Volcano's National Park.
The town of Kona is a 35 minute drive from the Hilton Hotels on the Big Island of Hawaii. The Hilton Hotels on the Big Island of Hawaii is a fun hotel to just spend a few hours walking around and seeing the sights.
The King and Queen shopping centers are located just a few minutes from the Hilton Hotel on the Big Island. They have many shops and restaurants available for you shopping and dining pleasure.

There are many hotels in Big Island Hawaii to choose from. Anywhere from a budget 2 star hotel in Kona to a six star luxury hotel like the Four Seasons Resort Hualalai. Most hotels in Big Island Hawaii are located on the western coast between Keauhou Bay in the south to the Resort area of Waikoloa to the north. Contrary to popular belief many hotels in Big Island Hawaii have beautiful,sandy beaches just out front of the rear door of their resort.The Kings and Queens shops in Waikoloa is close to many hotels on the Big Island of Hawaii.

Most of the hotels on the volcano side of the island are in the budget to lower moderate catagory as far as hotel quality.
